Welcome to Silverbell Therapies in Lanark! Complementary Therapies for health, relaxation and renewal.
I am a Clinical Reflexologist fully insured in Foot Reflexology, Facial Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. I am based in Lanark, South Lanarkshire and work at The Sports Therapy Clinic in Lanark on Fridays and Saturdays.
I obtained my Level 8 Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Reflexology from The Complementary Therapy School in 2019 which is the only private training provider in the UK to offer a university accredited Reflexology course. I then went on to train in The Bergman method of Facial Reflexology by award winning Ziggie Bergman and also Indian Head Massage by CMBTA.
Whether you want to reduce your day to day stress levels or would just like some “me” time my aim is to get you feeling less stressed, happier, healthier and energised with specially tailored Reflexology and Indian Head Massage treatments.
I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists (AOR).
Reflexology is a natural therapy founded on the belief that your feet, hands and face are a reflection of the systems in your body - where specific areas correspond to organs, glands and structure. By applying gentle pressure to areas of the feet, hands or face a Reflexologist can help the body restore its own healthy balance.
Foot Reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing treatment which uses the feet to treat the whole body. The benefits may include: pain relief, improved circulation, reduction in stress, sinus problems, sleep issues, digestive issues and menopausal/hormonal issues to name but a few. It is suitable for all ages although there are a few exceptions. Contact Joan to find out if you are suitable for a treatment.
Facial Reflexology is a wonderful therapy that has the same benefits as Foot Reflexology, but it is more gentle and slower. It can help with relief from headache and migraine, temperomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) and bruxism, encourages lymphatic drainage, sinus congestion and increases the blood flow to the face resulting in beautiful glowing skin.
Reflexology for all ages!
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and can be especially helpful for long-term and recurring conditions, as well as being an amazing stress reliever! Please note that Reflexology does not claim to diagnose or cure though - as a complementary therapy it should not be considered an alternative to conventional medicine, but used alongside conventional medicine.
This is a deeply relaxing treatment and can be effective in Relieving many conditions including stress and anxiety, sinus congestion, tired eyes, increases lymphatic flow in the head, face, neck and shoulders. Relief for mental fatigue, headache and migraine, relieve neck, shoulder and upper back pain and muscle tension and can improve hair and scalp condition.
I aim to treat the individual as a whole, creating a state of harmony in both body and mind. It has the benefit of also being a deeply relaxing therapy, and during periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal, restore and energise itself.

How many treatments will I need?
Everyone is different and the response to Reflexology can be immediate or sometimes take longer than one appointment, but often benefits can be seen after 4-5 sessions. Regular weekly treatments are best for the body properly beginning the self-healing process, and following an initial consultation I will suggest the number of Reflexology sessions I think we should undertake.
Does reflexology hurt?
You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a therapist I will be aware of the status of your feet, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour. All these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your feet - require a bit more care and attention.
Are gift vouchers available?
Yes! Gift vouchers are a great idea for your friends and family, or for a special occasion.
If you would like to purchase one, please contact Joan for more information.
What happens at a Foot Reflexology treatment?
At your initial treatment there will be a 10-20 minute consultation (free of charge). This will enable Joan to tailor your treatment. You will then remove your socks and lie on our special "lafuma" chair (or massage couch if you prefer) supported by pillows and comfy blankets to keep you warm. Joan will either use wax or cream depending on your personal preference and/or allergies.
What happens at a Facial Reflexology treatment?
Following a short consultation you will lie on our special "lafuma" chair (or massage couch if you prefer) supported by pillows and comfy blankets to keep you warm. You will then receive a hot towel face cleanse followed by a slow, gentle treatment using the award winning Zone Face Life Elixir which will leave your skin nourished and glowing.
What happens at a Indian Head Massage treatment?
As with the Reflexology treatments, after a short consultation our Indian Massage treatments can either be performed on a low backed chair or on our massage couch. The choice is yours! Whatever you feel most comfortable with. Joan will then work on your upper back, arms and then shoulders to relax the muscles and any tension. After this she will move on to the head, scalp and finally the face. Indian Head Massage can be done through the clothing if preferred and with our without oil.
These treatments can be done on their own as stand alone treatments or a combination of any of the above.
Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer or contactless.
